Artist Statement

My current practice is founded onthe need to understand my place through human connection, and the loss ofconnection I experience by relocating. I am currently exploring the moments whenthoughts of where I was previously, and where I am currently, have becomeblurred. I am working with concepts of loneliness and isolation, loss ofrelationships, loss of independence, and the difficulty of building newrelationships in adulthood. While I am exploring my connection to where I was,to where I’ve landed, I have been building a family with someone that has avery strong sense of place and belonging.

My work has been inspired by adream state I have experience wherein the cities of Toronto and Perth areblended into a new place, both familiar and foreign. In my work, I amreferencing the feeling of being chewed up by the challenges of living in ametropolis and the helplessness of needing to take a leap of faith to findbelonging elsewhere.
